简 介:In 2006,Costa Cruises(Italy)started homeport cruises in Shanghai with Costa Allegra(30,000 tons). This was followed by a rapid expansion of the Chinese cruise market as bigger and newer casual cruise ships were successively introduced. Conducting homeport cruises in Shanghai,these cruise ships belonged to multiple companies,including major cruise companies from the West,such as the Royal Caribbean International(USA),China-funded companies,such as Chinese Taishan(China),and SkySea Cruise Lines(China),a joint venture shipping enterprise formed between a Chinese company and a Western cruise company.

简 介:As the birthplace of global cruise tourism, North America is the world's largest traveler generating region and tourist destination region for cruise tourism, accounting for nearly 60% of the global market share. Miami, Florida is also called the “cruise capital” in the world. With the gradual saturation of the European & American market and the transfer of international cruise companies' strategic objectives, the Asia-Pacific region, as one of the most dynamic regions of the world economy, transfers the focus of the cruise fleet to the Asia-Pacific region, creating the eastward shift of the international cruise industry, which brings a major opportunity for the development of China's domestic cruise enterprises. According to the forecast of Cruise Lines International Association, the global cruise market is expected to reach 25.8 million people in 2017, 26.9 million in 2018 and 37.6 million in 2025, indicating that the international cruise market still has good prospects for development and huge market potential.

简 介:The 21 century is a marine economy era, so it was proposed in the report of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that “we should develop marine economy, protect ecological environment, safeguard national marine rights and interests and construct a marine power”. As the golden industry of golden waterway, cruise tourism plays a vital role in international tourism and transnational trade and it also serves as a critical part of China’s marine economy. Developed since 2006, China’s home port cruise tourism has become the cruise ship market with the fastest development speed around the whole world. However, as the huge ships used for both transportation and tourism, they are featured by “high energy consumption, high emission and high pollution” and have become the main source for the coastal and marine environmental pollution. According to the policies promulgated by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, “all cruise ship companies shall use low-sulfur fuel since 2015”. The report predicted that the measure would avoid the premature death of 12,000-31,000 persons per year and save medical expenditure of USD 110-270 billion by 2030 (EPA, 2009). The marine environment pressure and pollution brought by the fast development of cruise ship consumption and production greatly challenge the safeguarding of China’s marine rights and interests and sustainable development of marine economy. In consideration of the later development of China’s cruise ships, incomplete policies for cruise ship pollution prevention and weak supervision on cruise ship pollution, environment governance needs to be enhanced urgently.

简 介:In 1975, American CDC established Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP)to guide the standard operation of food and drinking water of cruise ship industry so as to reduce the infection risks of infectious disease of digestive tract of the passengers and crew members of cruise ships. Upon the implementation of VSP, the number of passengers suffering diarrhea per 10,000 persons was reduced from 29.2 in 1990 to 16.3 in 2000, greatly improving the public sanitary risk prevention and control level of cruise ship industry; at present, VSP has become the public sanitary industrial standard of European and American cruise ship industry and it is implemented by the cruise ship companies ranking the top in the industry, such as Royal Caribbean International, Carnival Cruise Lines and Norwegian Cruise Line. With the vigorous development of Chinese cruise ship market in the recent several years, Wusongkou International Cruise Ship Port started to operate in 2010 and then became the home port and port of call for dozens of international cruise ships. The berthing cruise ships were nearly 500 and the tourists reached nearly 2.85 million person-times throughout the whole year of 2016; 130,000-168,000t cruise ships under Royal Caribbean International and Carnival Cruise Lines were operated in the home port of Wusongkou International Cruise Ship Wharf. In particular, the Majestic Princess of Carnival Cruise Lines and Norwegian Joy of Norwegian Cruise Lines are the luxurious cruise ships customized for the Chinese market. The cruise ship market with high development speed is in urgent demand for public sanitary risk prevention and control guide. In 2015, Baoshan Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau started to carry out the feasibility study on the international advanced cruise ship sanitary inspection mode introduced. By referring to VSP and combining the features of domestic cruise ship market and applicable laws and regulations, it researched and developed portable cruise ship sanitary inspection assistant App; on the basis of the short berthing time of cruise ships, considerable passengers getting on/off board and multiple sanitary inspection items, it transferred more than 150 inspection items and English technical data containing nearly 10,000 English words into electronic database in virtue of the advanced development technique in the industry to realize the information of cruise ship sanitary inspection in order to reach the world advanced level. The application of the App in Wusongkou International Cruise Ship Wharf has improved the cruise ship sanitary inspection efficiency and sanitary risk defect rate greatly and lays a solid foundation for reducing the berthing cruise ship sanitary risks in Wusongkou International Cruise Ship Wharf, accelerating passenger customs clearance service and improving customs clearance service quality.

简 介:Global cruise ports, characterized by their highly concentrated distribution in specific regions (Rodrigue and Notteboom, 2013; Sun et al., 2014), are most popular at Caribbean Sea and the Mediterranean. As the cruise business of North America and Europe, where cruise industry is developed, grows slowly and tends to become saturated, cruise tourism, by leveraging its mobility feature, is transferring from low demand areas to high demand areas. The flexibility enables the market landscape of cruise tourism to cope with its niche market according to tourism demands and economic development and adjustment (Butler Halter, 2008). As we can see, cruise industry is gradually transferring to other regions along with the changes of global economic situation and the rise of economic powers in emerging market, and among these regions, the Asian-Pacific region develops the fastest.
