本书作者从2011年到2017年四赴南非,足迹遍布南非九省及主要城乡地区,走访社区、大学、乡村、教堂,搜集种族与族群关系的一手资料,对南非社会进行了较为深入、系统的实地调查,参考了大量中外学界已有的相关研究成果,围绕南非种族与族群形成、隔离、融合、发展这条主线,通过历时性与共时性相结合的分析,对南非多种族、多族群社会的形成,种族歧视与种族隔离制度的产生、发展与去除,后种族隔离时代南非的种族与族群关系等进行了深入细致的研究。
