The History of Russian Territory Expansion envisages
the Russian territorial evolution from the times of the Russian Empire onwards. In addition to
the introduction, the book is divided into nine chapters.
The Introduction sheds light on the sources and a
research status of the topic, and also defines the structure of this
investigation.
Chapter One looks as a theoretical backbone of the
book and introduces the territorial theory and main concepts affiliated with it
on pivotal priorities of International Law.In this regard, geographical politics is being studied
as a part of the Theory of International Politics.
Chapter Two reveals the territorial expansion
initiated by the Russian Empire before 1917 and its consequences which help to
discover the historical origins of the territorial expansion promoted by the
Soviet Union during the whole period of its existence.
Chapter Three examines territorial changes that
happened between the Bolshevik’s Revolution and the eve of World War II.It pays
attention to the Lenin’s famous concept of“no territory”-“no-compensation”taking place immediately after 1917.
Chapter Four and Five focus on the territorial
changes in the Soviet Union during WWⅡ resulted as its expansionist politics.
Chapter Six introduces Soviet efforts in making
propaganda activities while prmoting territorial changes. The“theoretical basis”proposed by the Soviet Union is under the author’s special
observation.
Chapter Seven mostly analyzes different factors
being able to promote the Soviet territorial expansion, promoted on the pivotal
principles of ideology.Within this context, the investigation of the
historical background of the post-revolutionary Russia along with geopolitical
frameworks is of great importance for the author.
Chapter Eight analyzes the adverse influence of
Soviet Union’s territorial expansion from the perspectives of
territorial changes, national security and national disintegration.
Chapter Nine observes new territorial and boundary
conditions taking place after the collapse of Soviet Union. The author
stresses that Russia has inherited the territorial and boundary problems from
the legacy of Soviet Union, and, consequently, stepped into a renewed political
situation with a similar bunch of territorial and boundary problems which
affect national integrity and the relationship between Russia and its
neighboring countries.
The epilogue concludes that a contemporary
territorial expansion of Russia cannot bring a real security for the country.Nowadays the
territorial sovereignty of any state cannot be reached through forcing military
situation.The
territorial conflicts between countries in the contemporary world can only be
resolved only through negotiations and peaceful initiatives.
