集体身份认同所制造的差异,正日益成为我们所处世界的普遍特征。解释社会整合的理论俯拾皆是,但是又往往互相抵牾。本书力图破解身份认同话语上的迷思,挑战那些建立在“差异性与共同性”上,被普遍接受然而却是错误的假设。对地方体系、社会关系、日常政治、个人处境的追溯,使本书既有民族志式的个案深描,亦有历史比较研究,这些丰富而鲜活的第一手材料为我们揭示了一个事实:“异”与“同”本身,并不能构成引发冲突或者形成整合的基础。我们善于制造异同,却在处理异同方面,天性脆弱。
