本书研究的主旨是社区中的自组织。通过观察民间如何与政府合作从事灾后乡村的社区重建过程,确定一个乡村社区能否发挥自身的力量,最主要的就是看其是否有自我组织、自我管理的能力。书中着力探讨了重建过程中一个又一个的事件如何促进或破坏了乡村的自组织能力。
