海上共同开发已有50多年的发展历程。本书将海上共同开发分为四个阶段：产生阶段（1958～1969年）、发展阶段（1970～1993年）、回落阶段（1994～2000年）、平稳阶段（2001年至今），主要收录并翻译了这四个阶段中的17个海上共同开发案例中较为重要的法律文本，以及1990年英国国际法与比较法研究所推出的“海上共同开发协定示范文本”，期待可以为进行海上共同开发问题研究的专家学者提供某些便利和参考。
