大学排名的优化何以可能

摘要

大学排名广泛地影响着大学申请者及其家人、大学行政领导者、高校教师、政府和高等教育投资者的行为。然而,全球排名的社会科学基础普遍受到忽视。只有简单的声誉循环而与实际产出没有任何必要联系的排名是没有共同价值的。如果要建立绩效与排名之间的良性关系,限制排名最大的潜在弊端,并优化排名的比较信息,就必须以科学的方式建立良好的排名。本文根据六项社会科学标准和两项行为标准对ARWU、Leiden、QS、Scimago、THE以及U-Multirank六大排名系统进行评价。社会科学标准分别是实质性(排名必须以可观察的高等教育世界为基础)、客观性(不应使用意见调查)、外部性(被排名的大学不应成为自身数据的来源)、全面性(排名应涵盖最广泛的大学功能)、特定性(大学排名应该避免使用具有权重的多指标或替代性指标)、顺序比例性(大学之间的纵向差异不应被夸大)。行为标准分别是位次上升与所有机构和国家绩效提升的一致性以及透明度,这意味着可以制定旨在最大限度地提高机构位次的战略。纯粹的研究排名整体评价良好,但缺乏全面性。U-Multirank在多数评价标准下表现较好,但是由于100%依赖于通过调查收集的主观数据而陷入困境。
