简 介:China has emerged as one of the major development partners in the world. According to official statistics, up until the end of 2016, China had provided a total of RMB 400 billion development assistance to 166 countries and trained 12 million people from other developing countries. Based on our estimate, China’s aid budget and expenditure has seen an annual average increase of 12 per cent since 2003.
During 2015-16, China announced significant development cooperation measures at various high-level occasions, including the 2015 and 2016 United Nations (UN) Summits in New York, the 2015 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the 2015 COP 21 in Paris. For example, China committed to establishing the South-South Cooperation Aid Fund with US$2 billion initial funding; the US$1 billion China-UN Peace and Development Fund; US$60 billion to African countries; US$3 billion South-South Cooperation Climate Change Fund; and hundreds of thousands of training opportunities for developing countries. Some of these commitments have already materialized.
