简 介:According to The power of culture for development by UNESCO, culture is an evolving dynamic force relevant to all societies, local or global. Thus, this Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations is an important event that provides an opportunity to share and deepen our understanding of the value of different civilizations in order to live and prosper together peacefully. Asian civilizations are diversified and ancient. For Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, it can be said that culture and civilizations from India and China are two notable important ones that have been exchanged and learned since the old time.
Through the centuries, India has been a source of Thailand’s inspired civilizations. Acceptance did not result in an indiscriminate manner but only those influences and practices that were suitable to local Thai ways of living. Many literary works were created based on Indian epic – Ramayana to share moral values of good deeds to conquer bad ones. Buddhism came from India in 3rd century BCE and has played a significant role in Thai culture and society.
